Ten years ago, I had a serious sugar addiction. I was also battling chronic insomnia and had a haphazard approach to exercise.

Perhaps ironically, I was also an avid reader of any health book that came on the market. But like many people who have read these types of books, I made no sustainable changes and would be back in my local bookstore the following month buying the next book that promised to transform my health.

Being a psychologist, I also have a penchant for research into habits and change. And it suddenly occurred to me - what if I used the strategies I knew about as a psychologist to make healthy habits stick?

Through the power of behavioural science, I managed to kick my sugar addiction, I can now leg press three times my own body weight, and I get eight hours of sleep almost every night.

But here’s the thing: I wasn't born with more willpower than you. I was simply able to hack my way to better and healthier habits.

A year ago, I was contemplating the topic for my next book. And it struck me - there was a huge collection of books about health, and in a completely different section, a stack of books about change and habit formation - but no one had thought to connect the two to make it easy to create health habits that stick.

I pitched the idea to my publishers at Penguin, and 12 months later, I am excited to announce that the resulting book is now available to pre-order.

In The Health Habit, I explore cutting-edge research into what we should eat, how to get fit, and how to sleep better, having interviewed professors at institutions including Harvard and Oxford, plus health experts such as Dr Norman Swan, Dr Layne Norton and Jessie Inchauspé, among many others.

The book is packed with bite-sized health advice and takes you through designing your own personalised and actionable plan to change your habits.

If you are feeling stuck repeating the same habits and looking for practical solutions that will improve your health for good, then I promise you: The Health Habit is your solution.

Don’t take my word for it…

(After all, I’m probably biased).

This is what others have to say:

“Finally: A practical book about building healthier habits that’s not only backed by research—it’s actually fun to read.” - Adam Grant, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Think Again and Hidden Potential

‘I can’t think of anyone who wouldn’t benefit from this book.’ - Nir Eyal, bestselling author of Indistractable and Hooked

‘A must-read for anyone seeking to improve their health.’ - Professor Martin Gibala, bestselling author of The One-Minute Workout

'My new go-to self-help book.’ - Alison Daddo, author of Queen Menopause

‘Relentlessly useful, bite-sized portions of personalised recommendations and tips.’ - Barry Braun, Professor at the Department of Health and Exercise Science, Colorado State University
